Review

I Am the Shark is an excellent book for the enthusiast who loves learning all about sharks. This book meets the great white shark who truly believes he is the most incredible shark. First, he declares that he is the giant shark in the book, but we find out that, no, the Whale Shark is by far more enormous than he. He says, well, maybe I am the tiniest, but no, the Dwarf Lantern is only the size of a human fist, and our friend, the great white is more significant than that. Maybe he the most brilliant shark in the book, but, no, the hammerhead shark has an enormous brain and can see in multiple directions. He thinks, oh, I have got excellent camouflage. Maybe I am the most sneaky shark in this book. No, the angel shark can hide very well in the sand. So then he boasts that he is the best hunter. But of course, you are getting it now; there is another shark better at that. The story goes on until we get to the end, where our dear friend learns that there will always be someone better at various other things, and all he needs to be happy is to be himself. The great white shark does have a rather fantastic smile with 300 jagged teeth to dazzle everyone.

This children’s book has a great depth of knowledge about all kinds of sharks that live in the ocean and presents it in a fun competition-type story. Children will learn lots of fun facts and enjoy the excellent illustrations as they read about sharks. Pick this one up for your classroom or for any shark lovers you know.
