Little Allies is a beautifully illustrated children's story that inspires kids to be their best with everyone, especially for those who may need an ally from time to time.
As Ally navigates through her school day, she watches her classmates face bullying and discrimination. Ally realizes that they all want the same thing - to be accepted as they are. Ally learns an important lesson, brought to light by her teacher, that our differences make each of us unique and special, and that we can be an ally to others to help them navigate through life.
Little Allies is a touching tale that reminds us of the importance of accepting each other, celebrating our differences, and working to become an ally. The colorful pictures show Ally's willingness to stand by her friends, even when she doesn't know how else to help. Adults in the story are also important allies, helping kids navigate challenges, learn ways to support, and cherish their uniqueness.
The bonus material at the end of the book will spark discussion at home or in the classroom.100% of online book sale proceeds will be donated to a nonprofit or organization focused on children's diversity and inclusion development or providing equitable access to opportunities for all children.
Review
A perfect book for teaching children about diversity should be included and loved for celebrating what is unique and special because no two people are precisely the same. Ally is a fourth-grader who witnesses one of her classmates being the target of bullying and discrimination. The target is a girl named Prisha, who is made fun of due to her heritage and driven to feel like she doesn’t belong. Ally chooses to become her friend and shows her classmates that the reasons they are bullying Prisha make her special and unique. By becoming someone’s ally, we can learn so much more about the world around us. There are many people and places in this world beyond our tiny backyards that can seem strange simply because they are different. Children will grow up and be adults in this world, and they will learn so much more if they know how to be that ally to everyone.
Little Allies has many great discussion questions for a classroom or a friendly chat around the dinner table about how kids’ would handle the same situations. Opening up your child’s eyes will instill lessons that will last a lifetime. Children’s eyes will be open to opportunities once they know how to handle them. It can be scary when you encounter something new or even someone new, but that doesn’t mean you should limit your experiences. Pick up Little Allies today and open your life and your family to all the unique people and places our world has to offer.
