Book Three of the bestselling Lux series

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger...and they know it.

Reading Challenges: 2026 Audiobook Challenge, All books

Okay, this series has officially reached the point where I am emotionally invested and making terrible decisions right alongside these characters. 😂

Opal picks up after everything that happened in Onyx, and the stakes are definitely getting higher. Katy and Daemon are finally in a different place with their relationship, and I loved getting more of them actually being a couple instead of constantly fighting their feelings for each other. Daemon is still ridiculously protective, sarcastic, and completely over-the-top—and honestly, I wouldn’t want him any other way.

But this book is also all about trust. Who can Katy trust? Who is lying? Who has another agenda? Every time I thought I had someone figured out, I was suspicious of them again five minutes later. 😂 There are secrets everywhere, and the whole situation with Dawson and his determination to find Beth adds another layer of danger because you KNOW nothing about this plan is going to be simple.

I also really liked seeing how much Katy has changed since Obsidian. She’s stronger and much more willing to throw herself into the action, although there were definitely moments when I wanted to grab her and say, PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS FOR FIVE SECONDS.

And then we need to discuss that ending.

Actually, no.

I am not discussing that ending because I am still offended. 😂

Jennifer L. Armentrout really said, “Oh, you’re comfortable? You think everything might work out?” and then chose violence.

At this point, there is absolutely no stopping. I need Origin immediately because leaving Katy and Daemon THERE should be illegal.
