Deadly Trials, Storm Magic, and a Rebellious Heroine
I went into Storm Breaker expecting a fantasy adventure, but what I got was a wonderfully chaotic mix of deadly storms, dangerous trials, secrets, rebellion, and dystopian vibes—and I was completely here for it.
Poet Graves lives in a world where her future has basically already been decided for her. She’s expected to follow the rules, marry the man chosen for her, and play her part in society. But Poet has other ideas, along with a dangerous secret: the storms don’t just terrify her—they seem to answer her.
One of my favorite parts of this book was the setting. The deadly storms and the strange power surrounding them gave the story an extra edge, while the academy trials kept the action moving. There were definitely moments that reminded me of the dystopian books I loved years ago, but with enough fantasy and storm magic mixed in to keep me turning the pages.
I also really enjoyed Poet as a main character. She’s stubborn, rebellious, and determined to make her own choices, even when those choices could cost her everything. And then there’s Rook, the mysterious outsider who brings plenty of secrets of his own. I enjoyed watching the trust and tension build between them, but for me, the adventure, dangerous trials, and mysteries of the world were what really kept me hooked.
And that ending? Let’s say I have questions. Lots of questions. This was a fast, entertaining read that reminded me just how much fun a good dystopian fantasy can be, and I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next.
