A bookseller never meant to wield magic. An archer who refuses to back down.

In a world divided between the floating city of Newfris and the untamed Earth below, Arra—a skilled archer, but no mage—fights for survival in the Muir Woods. While her sister Elanil wields the magic that Arra lacks, Arra battles the marauding Remnant, the last vestiges of a broken humanity. But when fate brings a group of rebels crashing from the sky, Arra’s life collides with a deeper mystery.

Among the fallen is Trey, a bookseller with a hidden gift for magic, and Rylan, Phoenix's son, now fifteen and a mage himself. Together, they uncover a deadly plot by the Cothellon—dark elves with an apocalyptic device that could destroy the world. As Arra grapples with her own insecurities, she must join forces with these unlikely allies, all while her heart is pulled toward Trey in ways she cannot explain.

With time running out, Arra must prove that magic is not the only strength that matters. In a race against the Cothellon, the survival of Earth lies not in power, but in courage.

Can Arra rise to the challenge, or will the world shatter like the city in the sky?

Welcome Back to Metalwood, Population: Chaos

You know that feeling when a series reaches the point where all the little clues, mysteries, and questions you’ve been carrying around since book one start colliding into each other?

That’s The Death Edge.

This book felt less like reading a fantasy novel and more like standing in the middle of a storm while pieces of the larger puzzle came flying at me from every direction. Every answer seemed to uncover something bigger lurking underneath, and by the end, I felt like I’d spent hours frantically connecting red strings on a conspiracy board.

What stood out most for me was the sense of discovery. The world of Metalwood has always felt layered, but this installment digs deeper into its history, secrets, and dangers, constantly having me reevaluate what I thought I knew. When I became comfortable with one truth, another revelation would appear, shifting the ground beneath my feet.

Phoenix continues to be a character I enjoy following because she doesn’t simply move through the story—she crashes headfirst into it. Watching her navigate impossible situations, dangerous choices, and revelations that would break lesser people kept me completely invested. The challenges she faces here feel bigger, more personal, and more consequential than ever.

The audiobook narration deserves credit for bringing the tension to life. There were several scenes where I found myself sitting in my driveway after arriving home because I wasn’t ready to stop listening. The narrator captured both the quieter emotional moments and the larger action sequences, keeping the momentum rolling.

One thing I particularly appreciated was that The Death Edge doesn’t rely on nonstop action to keep things interesting. There are battles, dangers, and high-stakes moments, but some of the most compelling scenes involve uncovering secrets, piecing together history, and realizing that things are not what they seem. Those moments gave the story weight and made the larger reveals hit even harder.

And while I won’t spoil anything, there were multiple points where I genuinely stopped and said, “Wait… WHAT?” out loud. Not because a twist came out of nowhere, but because the pieces had been there all along and I hadn’t connected them yet.

By the time I reached the final chapter, I wasn’t thinking about individual scenes anymore. I was thinking about how much larger the story has become and how many questions I still need answered. That’s usually a good sign that a series has its hooks firmly embedded in my brain.

If you’ve been following the Metalwood Saga, The Death Edge feels like a turning point where the mysteries become sharper, the dangers become more real, and the larger picture starts coming into focus. It left me excited, slightly overwhelmed, and eager to find out what happens next.
