Romantic Tension, Betrayal, and Emotional Damage
Fury Bound absolutely looked me dead in the eyes and said, “You thought the first book hurt? adorable.”
This book is pure stress. Not fantasy stress. REAL stress. The kind where every chapter feels like your emotional support character is about to get publicly executed while the love interest growls through another trauma bond confession. And somehow I ate up every single second of it.
Meryn spends this entire book hanging on by a thread, covered in blood, reeling from political betrayal, emotionally damaged, and facing approximately seventeen world-ending problems at once. The girl cannot catch a break. Every time she starts to gain control of something, Sable Sorensen kicks the door down with another plot twist, as if she personally enjoys watching readers spiral. And honestly? Respect.
Stark Therion, meanwhile, is out here operating at catastrophic levels of “touch her and die” energy. This man is emotionally constipated, violently loyal, terrifyingly obsessed, and somehow still romantic. Every interaction between him and Meryn felt like standing too close to an active explosion. The chemistry is filthy, feral, emotionally messy, and exactly what I wanted from this sequel.
But what really got me was how emotionally brutal this book is. Nobody feels safe. Nobody gets easy wins. The betrayals HIT. The family drama? rancid. The reveals? absolutely sick in the head. There were multiple moments where I had to stare at the wall because Sable Sorensen does not believe in peace, stability, or protecting the reader’s sanity.
And that ending??? EXCUSE ME?
I finished the final pages feeling like I had been personally pushed down a staircase. The cliffhanger is evil. Actual villain behavior. I need the next book immediately because I refuse to live in the emotional state this ending left me in.
Is it perfect? No. The pacing can feel relentless and chaotic at times, and if you don’t enjoy heavy politics mixed with nonstop suffering, this might test you. But personally? I was too busy inhaling the drama and screaming over the plot twists to care.
This series has officially crossed into “I would read 900 pages of these traumatized idiots ruining each other’s lives” territory for me. Dark romance readers are going to lose their minds over this one.
