The power to unlock new worlds. A prophecy to end them.
When sixteen-year-old Ricci donned her costume that morning, she never expected to portal to the fae realm in the middle of a performance. Ecstatic, Ricci wows the townsfolk with a beautiful scene from another world-but magic is dangerous, and her family is afraid. Still, if this newfound ability can earn some much-needed coin, what's the harm?
More harm than she can imagine.
In the fae realm, Lela is tending herbs when a portal opens in her backyard and Ricci walks through. Gongs ring out across the land. The prophecy they've feared for centuries has begun-the doom of the fae. Now, Lela must put aside her dream of capturing the heart of the male next door and find a way to save her people.
Back in the human world, Callen struggles to brew a potion that will satisfy his master's quest to open portals. When the Magnificent Menowin Traveling Troupe rolls into town with rumors of a girl whose magic transports you like you're part of the show, well, Callen must find her and turn her over to his master. Only then will he become a full mage.
But Ricci distrusts mages, Lela distrusts humans, and Callen is falling for Ricci hard and fast.
Their destinies are intertwined against an enemy they never see coming. Only friendship and love can save them. But if they cannot set aside their differences and fears, more than one world will be destroyed.
From the author of the Fated Born Series comes Sorcery and Stagecraft, book one in the Sorcery & Sacrifice series, a young adult clean romantic portal fantasy, perfect for fans of coming-of-age tales, deep friendships, and good triumphing over evil. Although a standalone, for the best experience it is recommended to read the books in order of publication.
Review:
Sorcery and Stagecraft is a story with the fae, demons, portal magic, humans, and mages. We have three POVs in this story: Ricci, a stage performer who travels with her family to different markets to make money, and Lela, who is in the fae realm, wary of humans. We must hide every time a warning gong goes off at the hint of a portal being opened and Callen, a mage desperate to gain his mentor’s approval. Ricci learns one day that she can create illusions, not realizing what these illusions do; Callen sees this magic illusionist and knows it will be the ticket to winning his master’s attention. Unknowling this illusion, magic sets off the portals in Lela’s world, and a war is soon waged. Callen, Lela, and Ricci soon will be entangled together, defending the fae from demons and power-hungry mages who want to control the whole world, both human and fae. I loved how this read as a stand-alone, though it is marked as a book one; I think it is more like a series of interconnected stories set in the same world. The description of the portal magic, the battle with the demon king and demons, and the sweet touch of romance kept the story firmly in the Young Adult genre. This is the first book I read by this author, but I quickly added her to my list to check out.
Beautiful cover on this one! If it is YA I’ll have to look at if I can get it for my students at my library. Great review!
Amazon has it kisted that way and there no overly sexual tones
