Forty contestants. Five pillars. One fae prince’s hand in marriage. They call it the Strife—where ruthless ladies of the court compete in the Five Pillars of Faedom to become the next queen.

Fenity was never supposed to be one of them.

Forced into the royal fray, she’s drowning in a sea of sparkling gowns and courtly scheming, with only the fear of disgracing her family to keep her from fleeing back to her quiet life.

Until she meets him. Prince Renic. And suddenly Fenity has every reason to fight.

But with each misstep, the contestants—the court, the world—remind Fenity she doesn’t belong. And when her forbidden magic rises to meet the threats, it reveals a power that could destroy her—and the kingdom. Fenity must outwit rivals, outlast the trials, and embrace the magic she’s been taught to fear, or she will lose everything.

Her prince.
Her future.
Her life.

Sorcery and Strife is the gripping second book in the Sorcery and Sacrifice series, a young adult romantasy perfect for fans of The Selection. Featuring swoony forbidden love, impossible challenges, and self-discovery, it’s best enjoyed after reading Sorcery and Stagecraft.

Review:

Sorcery and Strife is the compelling second novel in the Sorcery and Sacrifice series. If you read book one first, you will enjoy book two way more, but it can be read before book one if preferred. In this second novel, we follow Fenity, who has lived her whole life in the world far from the pomp and politics of the court. Soon, her life is uprooted, and she is forced into a marriage competition due to the new ranks of her parents. The strife is that 40 contestants have been raised their whole lives to be part of this competition, and Fenity is thrown to wolves. Fenity would rather die than be part of this circus performance, but soon, all that is thrown out the window. Fenity is a compelling, strong character, and the lengths she goes to stay true to who she always was and hide her secrets are extreme. I was biting my nails the whole last half of the book, wondering how it would all play out, knowing what I knew from reading book one. The author does a fabulous job of connecting the two books and telling a heart-aching tale. I would read more from her.
