Review:
Defend the Dawn is the second book in the Defy the Night series by Brigid Kemmerer. It is about a kingdom ruled by a pair of brothers who lost their parents and are trying to find a cure for a mysterious sickness ravaging their lands. In this sequel, we spend a lot of aboard a ship and trust that this new player in the series is who he says he is and that he genuinely has more moonflower to trade for steel. I enjoyed getting to know Harriston the King more since Corrick is stuck on the ship with Tessa. We learn more about Tessa and Corrick and the steaming underlying romance that is blooming and how much Tessa is struggling with separating Corrick, the king justice, from his secret identity of Weston Lark, whom she knew to be a secret companion as she tries to do right by the people of the wilds. The plot twists at the end of this sequel will make you jaw-droppingly eager for book 3. I am so glad I waited till the whole series was out cause the cliffhanger would have been a terrible burden to wait for the last book.
