They call him father, liberator, warlord, Slave King, Reaper. But he feels a boy as he falls toward the war-torn planet, his armor red, his army vast, his heart heavy. It is the tenth year of war and the thirty-third of his life.
A decade ago Darrow was the hero of the revolution he believed would break the chains of the Society. But the Rising has shattered everything: Instead of peace and freedom, it has brought endless war. Now he must risk all he has fought for on one last desperate mission. Darrow still believes he can save everyone, but can he save himself?
And throughout the worlds, other destinies entwine with Darrow’s to change his fate forever:
A young Red girl flees tragedy in her refugee camp, and achieves for herself a new life she could never have imagined.
An ex-soldier broken by grief is forced to steal the most valuable thing in the galaxy—or pay with his life.
And Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile to the Sovereign, wanders the stars with his mentor, Cassius, haunted by the loss of the world that Darrow transformed, and dreaming of what will rise from its ashes.

Review:
Pierce Brown approaches the story from a new angle in this fourth book of the Red Rising series. We have new characters that are introduced into the narrative. Initially, it is hard to care about Ephraim and Lyria; there, not Darrow, so why do we need their story in this book? You are about Lysander. At least I did cause you to get Cassius’s narrative at the same time. Soon all becomes clear as to why these side characters are essential, and it, of course, has to do with the newest characters, Pax and Electra, the children of our heroes, Darrow and Servus. The final chapters are heart-wrenching, and I wanted to throw the book like what in the world is Ephraium doing. The Ash Lord meeting was disappointing. How do you defeat a ghost of the evil you have wanted to take down for years. I thought they did give him a nice firey send-off. I think by far, Pax and Electra will step up even more as characters as they grow, provided they survive what Ephraim has done. They are firey, and I want to see more of them. Book 5 is up next, and then book six releases in June. See you on the other side of book five, an almost 800-page book.
