Senlin continues his ascent up the tower in the word-of-mouth phenomenon fantasy series about one man's dangerous journey through a labyrinthine world.
"One of my favorite books of all time" - Mark Lawrence on Senlin Ascends
The Tower of Babel is proving to be as difficult to reenter as it was to break out of. Forced into a life of piracy, Senlin and his eclectic crew are struggling to survive aboard their stolen airship as the hunt to rescue Senlin's lost wife continues.
Hopeless and desolate, they turn to a legend of the Tower, the mysterious Sphinx. But help from the Sphinx never comes cheaply, and as Senlin knows, debts aren't always what they seem in the Tower of Babel.
Time is running out, and now Senlin must choose between his friends, his freedom, and his wife.
Does anyone truly escape the Tower?

Thomas Senlin and his compatriots live life on piracy outside the Stone Cold airship tower. Senlin needs to get back into the building to continue his search for his wife, who has been lost from him for almost a year at this point. Two of the exciting places we venture to in this second book are the Golden Zoo and The bottomless library with a cat for a librarian. A battle ensues, which causes them to lose the fuel for Edith’s arm, so as a result, a trip to meet the sphinx creator of all interesting mechanical things to retrieve more energy. The sphinx is one interesting character. The library makes for an excellent chance for the author to share more about those traveling online and some backstory that would be hard to introduce anywhere else in the book.
Bancroft knows how to weave a story with a generous mix of fantasy and steampunk. I genuinely want to see Senlin reunited with his wife, and the adventure he is on will make for some good stories; I wonder if we get to hear about her part of the tale beyond what Senlin has supposedly learned as he is looking for her. The Tower of Babel is an excellent series of books that will keep you guessing about how this group will continue to ascend the tower on this quest. Now on to the third book in a new ship provided by the sphinx and a new search in a new part of the tower.

About Josiah Bancroft

Josiah Bancroft started writing novels when he was twelve and by the time he finished his first, he was an addict. Eventually, the writing of Senlin Ascends began, a fantasy adventure, not so unlike the stories that got him addicted to words in the first place. He wanted to do for others what his favourite writers had done for him: namely to pick them up and carry them to a wonderful and perilous world that is spinning very fast. If he’s done that with this book, then he’s happy.

Josiah lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Sharon, and their two rabbits, Mabel and Chaplin.
