On a continent ruled by three empires, everyone is born with a "witchery," a magical skill that sets them apart from others. Now, as the Twenty Year Truce in a centuries long war is about to end, the balance of power-and the failing health of all magic-will fall on the shoulders of a mythical pair called the Cahr Awen.
The biggest thing on Safi and Noelle's minds is saving money for their planned future in the Hundred Isles. Noelle, a Threadwitch, can see the emotional Threads binding the world. Safi, on the other hand, is a Truthwitch-she always knows when a person is telling a lie. A powerful magic like that is something people would kill to have on their side-or to keep off their enemy's side-and so Safi cannot even admit what she truly is.
With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and privateer) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must rise above their doubts and fight to learn who they are and what they are made of, if they are going to stay alive and preserve the balance of their world.
"An instant new classic."--Sarah J. Maas, New York Times bestselling author of Throne of Glass, on Susan Dennard's Truthwitch

Review

Truthwitch has elemental magic and a chosen pair of strong female characters who bring balance to the world. You will encounter a variety of magical creatures, sea wolves, dragons, and monsters who look like humans, as well as humans who look like monsters. They’re a bit of romance to keep things interesting. I admit I picked this book up a few times, and it was just not the right moment for it. I read it twice before this read along and this time, I am doing them via audiobook, and boy, does the audiobook make it come alive. What makes the books stand out for me is, yes, each book is center around a particular character or witch, but each book also brings out more info about the other type of witches that can be found beyond the characters we meet. So join the read-along and return to the Witchlands as we eagerly await the arrival of the next book.

About Cassandra Campbell

As Cassandra Campbell has said, “A good audiobook narrator is somebody who can get out of the way and let the story be the primary thing.” And no one embodies this more than Campbell herself, who has hundreds of audiobooks credits to her name and delivers each one with refreshing clarity and honesty. For her efforts, she’s been decorated with multiple Audie Awards, Earphones Awards, the prestigious Odyssey Award, among numerous other honors.
When it comes to her repertoire, no one is a more versatile narrator than Cassandra Campbell. She’s the voice of some of the most interesting thrillers of the past decade, including Everything I Never Told You, Bird Box, and Dark Places, and has also narrated so many inspiring nonfiction stories about strong women, such as The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Girls of Atomic City, and Orange is the New Black. She has also performed in some of the best ensemble casts of all time, as in Kathryn Stockett’s The Help, which set a new bar for audiobook artistry when it was released in 2009.
Campbell has always been an avid reader and has loved reading aloud; she recalls making her siblings listen to her read James and the Giant Peach and Grimm’s Fairy Tales when they were in elementary school. She didn’t officially get into audiobook narration until much later, though, when she was doing commercial voice-overs and a friend connected her with Books on Tape. Cassandra Campbell loves the opportunity to tell stories and to be part of a tradition that goes all the way back to the Homeric epic.
While she’s done some stage acting, audiobooks have become the center of Cassandra Campbell’s performing career. In recent years she’s also ventured into success with audiobook directing, opting for a collaborative style that allows for an organic, intimate performance. She’s even worn the hat of both director and narrator on a single title in Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. “That was a big journey for me,” she says.

About Susan Dennard

Susan Dennard has come a long way from small-town Georgia. Working in marine biology, she got to travel the world–six out of seven continents, to be exact (she’ll get to you yet, Asia!)–before she settled down as a full-time novelist and writing instructor.

She is the author of the Something Strange and Deadly series, as well as the New York Times bestselling Witchlands series, and she also hosts the popular newsletter for writers, the Misfits & Daydreamers. When not writing, she is slaying darkspawn (on her PS4) or earning bruises at the dojo.

She lives in the Midwestern US with her French husband, two spoiled dogs, and two grouchy cats.
