Book Summary from Good Reads:

When East Coast native Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment, she shoots off an e-mail to coordinate the basics: television, microwave, mini-fridge. That first note to San Franciscan Lauren sparks a series of e-mails that alters the landscape of each girl’s summer — and raises questions about how two girls who are so different will ever share a dorm room.

As the countdown to college begins, life at home becomes increasingly complex. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives . . . and each other. Even though they’ve never met.

National Book Award finalist Sara Zarr and acclaimed author Tara Altebrando join forces for a novel about growing up, leaving home, and getting that one fateful e-mail that assigns your college roommate.

My Review:

I love this book, because it brought me right back to my last summer before I left the nest and headed off to college. I got the letter in the mail telling me who my potential roommate was.  Like the characters in the story, I came from a household with younger siblings and my roommate was an only child.  We were as different as two people could be, and the thought of sharing a room with yet another person when I was starting a new life was scary and not at all what I really wanted.   We ended up having a great first year together, but the years after my Freshmen year of college, I forked out the money for my own single room and was much happier for it as I had my own space.  This book was a quick and easy read, and would be great as a gift to someone who is departing out on this wonderful journey,  It gives you a perspective from each character, chapter by chapter.   It is a great story I highly recommend to anyone who wants a fun, quick read and who might like a trip down memory lane.
