"Addictive and immersive, A Gathering of Shadows cements this series as a must-read." —Entertainment Weekly, grade A
Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London.
In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. Restless, and having given up smuggling, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks like she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games-an extravagant international competition of magic, meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries-a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.
But while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life, and those who were thought to be forever gone have returned. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night reappears in the morning, and so it seems Black London has risen again-and so to keep magic's balance, another London must fall...in V.E. Schwab's A Gathering of Shadows.

Review:
I have been following V.E. Schwab as she hosts a read-along on her youtube channel for the Shade of Magic series. We have finished book two, which is being hosted to prepare us for the new book in September 2023 (Threads Of Power). This second book contains one of my favorite scenes, a battle of magic. It reminds me a lot of The Crown’s Games series by Evenly Skye. Magicians battling it out tell one is left standing. What makes it even better is we have two participants who are not supposed to be a part of the games. One who is a fantastic magician and has no clue what she is doing. The stakes are high in this second book, as Lila Bard finds her way into a London that is not hers. Rhy and Kell are figuring out this magical bond between themselves, and in the shadows, a God is waiting to devour them all. I am eager for book three, the final book of this series, as Threads of Power is set in the future.
@veschwab here my review for book two A Gathering Of Shadows. Once again thanks so much for the readalong on youtube. #currentlyreading #ADSOM Click To Tweet
