Review
A Hunt for Shadows brings us to Meru, the hosting land for the competition. In this second book, Eira spends most of it playing detective for the Court of Shadows, a political group out to battle the pillars trying to bring about the revival of a long-dead secret. There is not a lot of focus on the actual competition as in this book they spend time training and getting to know the other competitors. I would have liked to see the competition start, but book three is in the wings, and that’s when I am sure we get some perfect edge-of-your-seat action. This second book is more a builder to get some key facts and some background uncovered before the actual battles come to light, at least I think so anyway. The slow-burn romance between Eira and the forbidden prince is heart-wrenching and so touching. I thoroughly enjoyed this second book, even if we did not get to the competition yet.
